Fix Your Acne Scarring With Laser Resurfacing
Laser resurfacing, also known as lasabrasion, laser peel, or laservaporization, is a med spa technique that can remove acne scarring. By beaming brief spurts of concentrated light, the skin is removed layer by layer. This is a popular technique that should be performed under the supervision of a healthcare professional. While acne scar treatment is a popular reason to use laser resurfacing, many patients use it to diminish wrinkles, deemphasize skin irregularities and reduce other scarring.
Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Resurfacing?
If you want to rid your face of acne scarring, wrinkles around the mouth, eyes, or forehead, or diminish sagging skin, you could be an excellent candidate for laser resurfacing. The pigment of your skin will determine the wavelength of light appropriate to your complexion. For instance, if you have very dark skin, CO2 laser resurfacing may not be the best option for you.
We do not use laser resurfacing to treat stretch marks. For those looking to minimize the appearance of stretch marks, micro needling RF is a better option.
How laser resurfacing works
Laser resurfacing is short for light amplification by the stimulated emission of radiation. We use two laser types for resurfacing of the skin. The light wavelength utilized to deliver the light determines the type of laser.
Laser resurfacing is typically an outpatient procedure. We can give you a combination of inhaled, IV, and oral anesthesia. The actual laser resurfacing procedure can take from about 30 minutes to 2 hours. Often, patients elect to have other treatments and procedures done at the same time as their laser resurfacing appointment. If your procedure requires an overnight stay, you are welcome to remain through the night in one of our observation rooms.
After the procedure, the doctor will apply a specialized salve to the treated area. Within the first 24 hours, you will need to clean the treatment region about five times with a very mild cleaning agent. Healing may take from 7 to 21 days.
