Ensuring Your Houston Facial Plastic Surgeon Is Qualified To Cut – Part 1
What we have here is a very readable compression of the article – yes, it all still makes very good sense. Something has to be done about the general level of education and awareness of the dangers of getting a face-lift from unqualified doctors. Obviously that is not the case here (NY Times in January), and face lifts in Houston and cosmetic surgery in Houston are at the highest levels in the country. This NY Times article has raised some eyebrows, and I thought it was very important to discuss some of these issues in a 3 Part Series with one of the best Houston Plastic Surgeons. So, in response to the article, Ear Doctors Performing Face-Lifts? It happens, we offer the following insight.
Now, what can be said about all of this?
All patients and all respectable surgeons, all know doctors should only be performing procedures inside their capability, and more importantly, only the procedures they have acquired through training, certification and experience. This piece from the NY Times made some statements that are not quite true. The information supplied inferred surgeons with American Board of Plastic Surgery certification are the only doctors who are allowed to do such procedures. Please keep reading for the explanation.
More than one Board assigning certifications and accreditation’s.
As the situation stands in the US today, we have two certifying boards. They are the following Organizations:
a)The American Board of Medical Specialties (often examine for face lift and facial plastic surgery in Houston), and
b) The American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Plastic Surgery (again, they often examine for plastic surgery and facelifts in Houston).
How Disagreements Start
In some cases, two doctors will have differing accreditations in those particular specializations. This has led to some quite ridiculous ‘turf battles’. When one of those debates begins, each of the societies on each side of the doctors determines where the disagreement began. The debate has often got completely out of hand. You can imagine the amount of public attention this draws about, and the situations are often over exposed. With this amount of information getting exposed on the media, which includes a lot of misinformation, the majority of doctors, including myself fear patients will not have the information they need, and they will make the wrong decisions on who to choose.
Serious Issues Raised Deserve Serious Replies
The issues raised are serious and deserve a serious and a well, and thought out response. With this in mind, I am borrowing extensively from the writings and position statements of the American Board of Otolaryngology/American Academy of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the following paragraphs. It is important for you as a reader to understand there are a number of qualifications and certifications, and the organizations and societies who issue those accreditations. I am making sure I am writing all those qualifications and what procedures those doctors are recognized or certified to perform.
